A PMO or Project Management Office is a department within an organization that is chartered to provide standards for project management and to control the execution of projects from conception to completion. In some organizations, a PMO is also referred to as the Program Management Office or Portfolio Management Office depending on the scope and function of the office. In all those cases, a PMO also acts as the center of excellence spearheading best practices related to the profession of project management.
