A Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) is a deliverable of a number of projects that document how a the projects quality requirements are going to be met. The plan details steps and processes that provide greater confidence to the project sponsors and customers on the project meeting its quality requirements. A well developed QAPP thus ensures that the project’s goals and objectives are met and ensures reduced variances and fewer defects, which are known to increases cost and also result in missed deadlines.

A QAPP document addresses the following topics:

  • Project or Program overview and description
  • Quality objectives of the project or program
  • Audits
  • QA team
  • Project reviews
  • Sampling process (if applicable)
  • Scope of quality assurance (product testing, data testing, interfaces, etc.)
  • Tools and techniques used in QA
  • Testing methods
  • System testing  methods and process
  • Validation testing methods and process
  • Integration testing methods and process
  • Requirements traceability
  • Corrective action process
  • etc.
